Are you a legally licensed hauler? Yes - absolutely!
How do I schedule transportation? It is best to talk to us personally on either the office phone or cell phone. We will want to discuss your requirements in detail to make sure that we can service your needs in the best way.
What paperwork will I need to ship my horse? A negative coggins dated within one year and a current health certificate dated within 30 days are required at the time of pickup.
Should I wrap my horses legs? We discourage wrapping legs, but this is your decision. Wraps can slip or come off and become a safety issue. If wraps do come loose, we will remove them but will not attempt to reset them.
How often do you stop during the trip? This depends on weather and road conditions. We most often stop every 4 or 5 hours to check horses, offer water, refill hay nets/bags and allow the horses to rest and urinate. (Horses in box stalls have water buckets in their stall at all times.)
How big is the stall my horse will be in? In most cases, you have a choice of single, stall & 1/2 or box stall. Some situations dictate that a box stall is the only safe choice: pregnant mares, mares with foals, unbroken weanlings that don't cross tie, unusually nervous or high strung horses, etc. It has become widely accepted that horses shipped in box stalls suffer less stress, arrive fresher and are less likely to suffer any health problems related to shipping. Horses in box stalls have free access to water buckets and are allowed to put their heads down as in a natural grazing position. In our smooth air-ride trailer, with two very careful drivers, your horse will be nearly as comfortable as if it were at home in its own stall.
What do I need to send with my horse? Your horse needs to have a safe and correctly-fitted halter and a lead rope. In most cases it is best to send enough hay for the duration of the trip so that your horse can continue eating the hay to which it is accustomed ...this helps prevent digestive problems. If the weather necessitates, a blanket or sheet may be needed.
Can I check on my horse during the trip? Yes. We are usually in pretty close contact with people at both the pickup and destination points of any trip to coordinate times and directions. You are welcome to call the cell phone number at any time. Be prepared to give good driving directions, keeping in mind that the truck and trailer together measure over 75 feet long and nearly 14 feet tall. Sharp turns and low tree branches can be an issue!
How do I keep from being nervous about this trip? Nervous is ok...that just means you care. However, rest assured that your horse is being taken care of by the two people that own this business. We don't trust the driving or the care of your horse to anyone else...just us. We limit the trips we book so that we can provide "personalized, custom service." Remember...two drivers at all times that are also caring and knowledgeable horsemen; safe, new and comfortable equipment; your horse and your trip are our only priority. You have already done the best that you can do...you hired Summerfield Farms.
